Jupiter Lion – Brighter CD
Jupiter Lion's magic carpet still retains all its psychomotor powers intact. After a surprising first eponymous LP that deservedly placed them in the international orbit (with effusive praise from internationally prestigious portals such as The Guardian or Spin), the Valencian trio delivers a second album that amplifies the successes of their debut film, with a speech sound more refined, personal and balanced if possible. Psychedelia and rhythm. Kraut rock and post punk. Jazz and techno. Fire and air. Past and future.
The songs of the Valencian trio (Jose Guerrero on bass and vocals, Gonzo In Vegas on drums and Sais on keyboard and programming) progress in this Brighter in a similar way -as was foreseeable- to those of their fantastic debut album: always in movement, masterfully increasing the levels of intensity -without one noticing-, pushing the ship forward without pause and without falling into empty contemplation or prog rock onanism. Jupiter Lion have the keys to the ship and they have to take advantage of the fact that they have gasoline left for a long time. A perfect retro-futurist combination of psychedelia and rhythm, with more ambient songs like Delpasse (which perfectly fulfill the function of a service station within the group) and other more direct ones in which the group gives free rein to their affection for analog keyboards and the programming with a Kraftwerkian aftertaste.
Authentic gems like Doppelganger or Your God Is Human, which make you get up from your chair with your fist raised and show that the group knows the route to the galaxies: worked and hypnotic rhythms (with the perfect doses of muscle and imagination), analogue aftertaste and dynamic and long-range compositions, a delirium for the senses. It is difficult for a group with such a defined stylistic pattern as Jupiter Lion to keep the listener's attention throughout the entire LP -with songs that easily exceed five minutes-, but those from Valencia are three creative musicians who also work hard in the rehearsal room, something that is transferred to his direct incendiaries (as we were able to see recently at the Primavera Sound 2014 festival) and also to the elaborate production of Brighter (recorded and mixed by Pablo Peiró and produced by Peiró himself and the group in March of this year). Brighter reaffirms the personality of Jupiter Lion while expanding its expressive palette (greater rhythmic complexity, presence of vocal melodies, more electronics).
